Abstract. In the book we consider from theoretical and practical points of view the basis Microsoft technology Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) used for managining of Windows-based systems. The standard administrative WMI tools are described. Many completed scripts that allow to manage file system, event logs, system registry, processes and services at remote computers, to perfom inventory of hardware and software on workstations, to automatically handle events arising in operating system are presented. Accessing WMI from console (WMI Command-line, WMIC) and possible ways of standard WMIC schema extending are considered.

Abstract. In the book the Windows Script Host (WSH) version 5.6 is described (WSH 5.6 is one of Windows XP standard components and also it can be installed in previous versions of Windows). There are scripts on VBScript and JScript languages which illustrate the using of WSH 5.6 standard objects including such new features as creating child processes from scripts and launching scripts at remote computers. As more complicated examples, some scripts which deal with databases, manage Microsoft Office applications and realize a GUI are presented. Also there are scripts that use ADSI (Active Directory Service Interface) and WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) technologies to solve practical administrative tasks. Operations with XML files and constructing COM objects via script languages are separately discussed. Special attention is paided to security settings for scripts, specific group policy settings are presented.

Abstract. In the book the language of batch files in Windows 95 and approvements of this language in Windows NT are considered. An information about main commands of Windows 95 and Windows NT is given. Also the book contains description of Windows NT Resource Kit utilities that used for writing of batch files. The Windows Scripting Host (WSH) which allows to automate tasks of operation system administration and application management is described. There are examples of batch files and WSH scripts for acces to file system, databases and directory services.
